Chris Sartain began practicing yoga as a college student while living in Athens, GA as a way to create more flexibility and strength for kayaking and backpacking. He has been doing yoga for over a decade now and teaching for the last two years. Chris and his wife Carolina opened Lotus Lounge Yoga Studio on the Dahlonega Square in June of 2009. Unfortunately, the studio recently closed after Chris and his wife moved to Gainesville, GA, but the studio helped establish yoga as a viable tradition in North Georgia. Both Carolina and Chris continue to teach yoga around North Georgia. Chris currently offers classes in Dahlonega, Gainesville, and Cumming on a weekly basis. His class is an eclectic mix of various styles of Hatha Yoga based upon a basic Vinyasa Flow format. Chris also teaches meditation and Ayurveda at weekend retreats in the North Georgia Mountains through his company Inti-Yoga Journeys. He received his Yoga Alliance Certification through the teacher training program at Peachtree Yoga Center in Atlanta and has received his knowledge of Ayurveda through the Advanced Yoga and Ayurveda Course at the American Institute of Vedic Studies.
John Hawkins Certified Tai Chi / Qigong Instructor
John Hawkins approaches Tai Chi based on the philosophy that all aspects (Martial, Health, Spiritual) of Tai Chi are equally important. To instill this in his students, John teaches the Three Pillars (Qigong, Forms, Push Hands), combined with Qi cultivation exercises. John’s hope is that all his students will learn enough to continue enjoying the benefits of Tai Chi and Qigong for the rest of their lives with or without an instructor. John is a certified Yang Style Tai Chi/Qigong instructor under Sifu Gary Tong. Sifu Tong’s lineage can be traced back to Yang Chien Hou, father of Yang Cheng-Fu. John has also studied under Grandmaster Yang, Jwing-Ming with the goal of also being certified by Grandmaster Yang sometime in the future.
